Introduction by dmorista: These three videos and the article all discuss the role of NATO and the unquestioned leader of NATO, the U.S. ruling class. The 3 videos feature commentators with widely varied points of view. But they generally agree on one thing; the very aggressive U.S. / NATO actions in Ukraine over the past year and in the years leading up to the Russian invasion of Ukraine, just increased the intensity of a war that was already taking place inside Ukraine.
The article, “NATO: Seeking Russia’s Destruction Since 1949”, provides an excellent background analysis of what took place between the founding of NATO in 1949 and the date of the article in 2015. It is a bit long, around 6,500 words, but is full of information. Including the involvement of the U.S. in Afghanistan when the U.S., under Jimmy Carter and Zbigniew Brzezinski, “lured” the Soviets into a war in Afghanistan that Brzezinski called “The Soviet Union’s Vietnam”.
A couple of maps are helpful first the historical growth of NATO, moving inexorably towards Russia.
Also since members of the War Party and some of their propagandists have been talking about “The Belgrade NIne” recently: Map 2 below provides a look at the military forces they were able to field a couple years ago. We can logically expect that the amount of military force available has increased.
Finally as The Duran and Breakthrough News and LeftLens have discussed for years the world, in the wake of the Proxy War in Ukraine, is dividing into two major camps. The U.S. / NATO Finance Capital Bloc and the China / Russia Global South Bloc. There is not a unified ideological stance among the peoples of the Global South, but there is deep suspicion of the motives of the U.S. / NATO forces.

In 1990, after the fall of the Berlin Wall, U.S. president George H. W. Bush through his secretary of state James Baker promised Soviet premier Mikhail Gorbachev that in exchange for Soviet cooperation on German reunification, the Cold War era NATO alliance would not expand “one inch” eastwards towards Russia. Baker told Gorbachev: “Look, if you remove your [300,000] troops [from east Germany] and allow unification of Germany in NATO, NATO will not expand one inch to the east.”
In the following year, the USSR officially dissolved itself. Its own defensive military alliance (commonly known as the Warsaw Pact) had already shut down. The Cold War was over.
So why hasn’t NATO also dissolved, but instead expanded relentlessly, surrounding European Russia? Why isn’t this a central question for discussion and debate in this country?
