Introduction by dmorista:

These two discussions address the current domestic political situation in the U.S. The first discussion “The Deepening Assault on Core Democratic Rights in the USA”, begins with a description of the Attica Prison Uprising of 1971 that lasts for around 10 minutes. Becker, at the time, was a teenaged political activist who worked to help the prisoners there and their families. That discussion is followed an analysis of the changing demographics and political awareness in U.S. society, that is very unfavorable to the right and that precludes their winning the popular vote in Presidential elections. Becker points out that the most extreme elements of the U.S. right, among the ruling class, realize this.  In response they are shifting their tactics to the use of other parts of the U.S. State Apparatus, that is to totally non-democratic institutions like the Supreme Court, the Federal Reserve Bank, and similar unelected centers of governmental and non-governmental power. He sees the Dobbs decision, that ended nationwide access to reproductive health services, as the opening shot in a pervasive campaign to roll-back the socioeconomic and political gains won by the U.S. working population over the last 100 years and more.

In the second discussion, How the Ultra-Right Intends to Take & Consolidate Political Power”, Becker further elaborates on this shift, from elections and elected officials, to the non-democratic institutions of the U.S. State Apparatus. He also discusses the pivotal era, from 1960 – 1980 during which not one President managed to last for two full terms and waves of uprisings in the cities and poltical assassinations marked the two decade long period. Becker and Nicole Roussell mention that the discussion is based on a document, written by Becker, entitled The Counter Revolutionary Assault on Democratic Rights and Democracy, that was based on a speech he presented at the 5th party congress of the Party for Socialism and Liberation. He stated that the document will be released to the public, but was in the final stages of editing when these programs were posted. I cannot find either the document or the speech at the websites for The Socialist Program or Liberation News.
