Robert Pape discusses the question of Political Violence in the U.S.

The MId-Term Election that hits its crescendo tomorrow, needs to be placed in context; something I have tried to do here previously. Robert Pape has studied the issues involved in politically motivated violence for nearly 30 years; and has lectured U.S. Air Force senior officers on the dubious efficacy of the strategic bombing campaigns they traditionally have favored and conducted.

The longest version of his recent discussion with Pyotr S. Kurzin, a comprehensive 2 hr, 32 min, 15 sec analysis of the sources and development of the political / war situation in which the U.S. is currently embroiled, shows Pape's understanding of these issues. I listened to an excellent pod cast: "Is America's Strategy in Iran Backfiring? with Robert Pape", that is a featured episode of The Global Gambit podcast, hosted by Pyotr S. Kurzin. The duration of the video is 2 hours, 32 minutes, and 15 seconds. However even though a web search yielded up the title and time duration I cannot find a url for the complete discussion. However the two episodes posted here cover most of the issues discussed in "Is America's Strategy in Iran Backfiring? with Robert Pape".

Introduction by desmond: Pape studied political violence and the reasons for it for years, mostly in foreign lands but also in the U.S. He is worried that the U.S. will undergo a period of Political Violence between the actual Election on Nov 3, 2026 and the seating of House of Representatives members and Senators on Jan 3, 2027. While there are many issues and comparisons with what has happened in the past that Pape does not touch on his analysis is pretty good. He is not a leftist and “even-handedly” claims that the left is just as prone to violent acts as is the right ignoring the fact that the vast majority of weapons in the U.S. are in the hands of right-wingers. Nonetheless he makes a strong case for the liberals to make common cause with the non-fascist Trumpista conservatives to work with Liberals to avert violence as much as possible in coming months.
