Is there any possible 'decent' explanation for Trump’s Epstein cover-up?
The Trump regime’s Department of Justice went through the motions of following the law he signed and releasing the so-called Epstein Files on Friday.
This highly redacted dump turned out to be yet another stunt that made even more evident that Donald Trump is on a relentless quest to obscure the president’s decades-long connection to one of the worst child rapists of our time. Again, you have to ask yourself, “Is there any possible way that Trump’s Epstein cover-up could look more guilty?”
It’s tough to imagine!
Every chance he gets, Trump seems just to confirm the sneaking suspicion, “Of course he’d want Epstein dead! Weird that he didn’t do it sooner.”
Trump—who demanded that every email Hillary Clinton ever wrote be hacked and released to a nosy world—seems intent on hiding SOMETHING. That’s the only possible explanation. Or, he’s devoted to drowning himself in suspicion about his ties to his old best bud.
Given that the former cannot possibly be his intention, you have to wonder, “Could there possibly be an innocent explanation for how guilty this adjudicated sexual assailant is behaving?”
Let’s dig into that question.
For Marcy Wheeler’s video above, which I produced, I found a clip of Charlie Kirk at a Turning Point USA live event with Megyn Kelly.
Kirk was practically begging Trump to see how important this story is to Trump supporters. The subtext I gathered is, “Mr. President, can you please act at least like you’re transparent about this?”
And the answer continues to be, “No.” He won’t.
Despite being groggy with the undeniable conclusion that Charlie Kirk was the brains of this operation, I’m shocked by how much of a mess Trump wants to make of this. He seems intent on making this scandal—which is ripe with so many unfalsifiable suspicions no matter what he does—last forever. You have to wonder why he can’t even attempt to put it to sleep, to give some sort of explanation his supporters can use as a chew toy.
You might say, “Well, he’s trying “Hoax!”
That’s his big move, and it’s worked for everything from conspiring with Putin against our democracy to escaping any real consequence for a failed coup.”
And you’d be right, it always works, more or less.
“Hoax” is his finishing move, and with the help of John Roberts and his MAGA 5, “hoax” delivered him a president beyond any conventional limits of the law. It bested Mueller and Jack Smith. And it will eventually quell Epstein’s stink. One of Trump’s advantages is that he never gives up or relents to reality. And surely, we—the nation deteriorated enough to let this sick clown become president, twice—will eventually move on!
But Trump seems to be truly miscalculating here, just as he is with “affordability” in a way that makes you wonder if he’s losing his touch. (And likewise Democrats in the House have masterfully played this issue in a way that triggered the first mass defections against Ill Douche.)
As Marcy notes, broad and shameless accusations of pedophilia are a cornerstone of MAGA. I’d add that they connect directly to “deep state” and (((globalist))) conspiracism, and implicate Trump in some of the most hideous crimes of the century with a Jewish man! Yikes.
And these noxious tendencies also speak to the same kind of empty “strict-father” morality of America’s right that allows you, Daddy or Daddy’s wife, to enforce all hierarchies and punish anyone under you under the guise that you are “protecting the children.”
This issue matters to the people he needs most. And for the rest, it exposes his rampant corruption and exploitation as issues that cannot be ignored.
So, again, why? Why is he so bad at this?
Marcy points to two possible “innocent” explanations:
Melania.
The spray of lawsuit threats from Melania against those who make the connection between her and Jeffrey Epstein could allow us to say, “Hey! Dude is just trying to either protect or avoid shit from his partner! Who doesn’t get that?!”Trump’s failure to protect the “girls” of Maralago.
Epstein preyed on Trump’s employees. Trump has used that to suggest why he broke off his bonds with Epstein, which appears to be false. But he’s just sensitive about the accusation, given what’s happened since.
Of course, neither of these explanations is innocent. Both would deeply implicate Trump and his wife in the hundreds of cases of abuse committed by Jeffrey Epstein and Ghislaine Maxwell.
Trump seems very aware of the details of Virginia Giuffre’s story, at least. He knows she was recruited and the horrors that followed. He shows absolutely no regret about that, other than a festering annoyance that his girl was “stolen.” He and Melania, who would have had an extra moral obligation if she were genuinely close to Epstein at some point, had a moral, if not legal, obligation to raise hell about Epstein’s violation and destruction of children.
But that’s only if you have any concerns for the survivors as human beings.
The sweetheart deal Maxwell has already received and the ongoing collusion between Trump and Epstein’s co-rapist offer undeniable evidence that he has none. So the “innocent” explanations of protecting his wife or Maralago’s reputation are even more pathetic and disgusting.
Back during Trump’s first term, when I tried to raise hell over Trump’s appointment of Alex Acosta, the guy who gave Epstein the sweetheart deal that made countless more rapes possible, to his cabinet in a position Acosta was completely not qualified for, I obsessed on a statement that contained three facts:
Back in 1996, when Trump was Jeffrey Epstein’s great pal, he bought a teen beauty pageant and often walked in on the teen contestants when they were changing.
I occasionally phrased that as “SO he could walk on the teen contestants as they were changing,” but that was not a fact I had proof of.
All we knew for sure was:
Trump was once great pals with one of the worst child rapists ever to live.
In that time, he bought a teen beauty pageant.
He walked in on contestants in various stages of undress.
Was I out of line for suggesting some motive to connect these three facts? Or is it moral cowardice to come to any other conclusion?
I think we’re at the point where we must say that Trump’s Epstein coverup stinks because there’s no decent explanation for any of this.
REDACTED: The Trump Administration Can't Cover-up The Epstein Files Forever
The best way for Donald Trump to clear his name and escape his relationship with pedophile Jeffrey Epstein is to simply release all the files. That didn't happen today. What is he hiding?
We are witnessing the biggest political cover-up in modern history.
I’m of course referring to the Trump Administration and its loyal Reeks doing everything within their power to deny the American public access to who, and what, is contained in the Epstein Files.
Today, the Trump Administration is legally obligated to release the full files. Well, we received thousands of pages of documents, but most of them look like this or are filled with mundane details that don’t reveal major players, the financial trail, or Trump and Melania’s extensive relationship with the world’s most notorious pedophile.
There are photos of Michael Jackson and Bill Clinton! However, the 119 pages of Grand Jury testimony were completely redacted.
It’s always important to remember that nothing is stopping the Administration from releasing the full files, unless, of course, they are hiding information or protecting very important people.
It’s also worth noting that Ghislaine Maxwell, Epstein’s partner in crime, was transferred to a minimum security camp in Texas, where she’s receiving preferential treatment. Trump hasn’t ruled out pardoning her. Melania Trump also has to answer questions about her relationship with Maxwell and Epstein, but instead, she’s promoting her new multi-million dollar propaganda documentary produced by Amazon and directed by Hollywood creep Brett Ratner.
If anything, the Trump Administration’s redacted file dump today only makes Donald Trump look more shady and guilty of allegedly committing horrific crimes with Epstein. If he has nothing to hide, he has nothing to lose by being completely transparent. However, if indeed he has something to hide, then, well, he’d behave exactly like he has been for the past year.
To break down today’s news, I invited journalist and writer Ellie Leonard, who has read every single published Epstein email and been in contact with some of his survivors. Later in the conversation, former Trump fixer Lev Parnas joins us.
