Stephen “We are the Storm” Miller lives behind these gates
As they advance their vile fascist agenda – replete with domestic military occupation, mass racist kidnappings, the terrorization of immigrant communities, the expansion of a giant network of concentration camps, extrajudicial executions on the high seas, the de facto cancellation of the legislature, the bullying of the media, an attack on universities, defiance of judicial orders, rule by executive order, persecution of political opponents and critics, the slashing of health insurance subsidies and the denial of basic nutritional assistance to millions of Americans, and more horrible to contemplate and experience – a number of high Trump officials now live on US military bases:
The brazen racist-fascist and top Trump political adviser Stephen “We are the Storm” Miller now lives at Joint Base Myer-Henderson Hall in Arlington, Virginia.
The deranged puppy-killer and neo-Nazi Homeland Security Secretary Kristi “Gestapo Barbie” Noem lives in the home formerly occupied by the Coast Guard commandant on Joint Base Anacostia-Bolling.
Top regime operatives Secretary of State Marco Rubio and Pete “Secretary of War” Hegseth live on “Generals’ Row” at Fort McNair, also known as the Washington Arsenal.
Why is significant that (at least) four top officials in the Trump fascist regime (TFR) now live on military bases?
Two reasons. First, their new neighborhoods symbolize the far-right militarization of domestic politics and the replacement of previously normative bourgeois democracy and rule of law by the dictatorial rule of force of and men. They are agents of a rolling fascist coup characterized by bottomless depravity and constant deranged transgression against the people, including many Americans in Trump’s own base. The depraved fascist-in-chief Trump recently ordered 800-plus generals and admirals to Quantico, Virginia, from across the vast American global empire to hear him say that America’s real adversary is “the enemy within,” meaning the residents of the nation’s majority nonwhite and “radical left” cities. Trump told the stone-faced brass that American cities need to become “training grounds” for the US military.
In his current emergency request for a Supreme Court shadow docket ruling that would greenlight the military occupation of Chicago and other cities, Trump has dispensed with his past invocations of federal statutes that supposedly permit him to bypass the Posse Comitatus Act and the Tenth Amendment to the Constitution. He argued instead that the judicial branch has no legitimate constitutional authority to rule on his power to deploy the military anywhere he wants for whatever reason.
If he doesn’t get what he wants from the Christian fascist Court that he appointed during his first term he will likely invoke the ancient slaveowners’ Insurrection Act to put troops in Democratic Party-run majority nonwhite cities.
The Trump regime is moving in numerous ways to rig the 2026 mid-terms, which may well take place in the intimidating, vote-suppressing presence of occupying troops in US cities.
Trump’s ICE and Border Patrol – unencumbered by the Tenth Amendment and Posse Comitatus and filled with the most racist and reactionary thugs in government – have already undertaken a vast military assault on US cities.
Hegseth, Miller, Noem and Rubio hold high offices in a fascist regime that is marching the imperial homeland to some version of martial law. Moving from civilian abodes to military digs is a nice match for this sick project.
Second, they and others in the TFR likely know that the vicious, simultaneously racist, sexist, nativist, oligarchic/capitalist, xenophobic, and arch-authoritarian – in a word, fascist – agenda that they, their party, and their deranged leader are ramming down the throat of the homeland carries the potential for the provocation of a popular uprising and even a civil war that could put themselves and their families at risk of physical harm. After all, these motherfuckers and their Fuhrer are viciously attacking everything good and decent in US-American government and society, drastically accelerating the pace of the nation’s transformation into a revanchist, arch-reactionary dystopia – an oppressive, authoritarian Hellscape wired to cancel all prospects for a decent future at home as well as abroad. Doing that tends to piss off a lot of people, including some folks in positions of power, something that may explain part of why these fascist chieftains want to live behind military checkpoints.
These fascist assholes aren’t waiting to be led down into bunkers from their offices like Trump was during the George Floyd Rebellion. They are bunkering in advance in anticipation of the conflict that could ensue from the further fascist offensive their dystopian regime is planning.
And that should be a concern to all of humanity, not just Americans. As the great Marxist economist Ernest Mandel wrote 56 years ago:
“There is no need to dwell on the terrible danger that such a [US-American version of] fascism would present not only to the continued existence of human culture but to the very physical existence of the human race. One can imagine what would have happened in 1944 if Hitler had had an arsenal of nuclear weapons similar to those the United States now possesses…If…U.S. big business should hand power over political power to violently irrational men, it would be fatal to all mankind. At the end of the 1920s and the beginning of the 1930s, revolutionary Marxists could warn that the struggle against fascism and for a socialist solution of the European crisis was a battle against an advancing barbarism in our part of the world [in Europe, that is – PS]. In the coming decades, the struggle for a socialist America may be a life and death battle for all mankind.”
