The American media normalizes lethal insanity every time it refers to Donald J Trump as “President Trump” instead of as “the deranged, debased, and demented fascist maniac in the White House” or other properly shocking words to that effect.
Trump is of course the actual sitting POTUS, to the great shame to US citizens, but every day brings yet more mind-boggling and soul-crushing evidence that the second description is the more appropriate one.
“For anyone holding their breath,” someone said online recently, “waiting for this fascist regime to hit rock bottom: there is no rock bottom. Their depravity will continue to shock the world, week after week, for as long as they hold power.”
Serial Killings in the Caribbean
Mad “king” Trump is now blowing up random boats in the Caribbean, claiming without a hint of a wisp of a scent of evidence that the people he is slaughtering in cold-blooded violation of international and national law and basic decency are “enemy combatant” narco-traffickers at “war with the US” under the command of Venezuelan president Nicolas Maduro.
Trump has killed at least 30 human beings this way, so far.

One of his victims was the Colombian fisherman Alejandro Carranza. When Colombia’s president Gustavo Petro denounced Trump’s murder of Carranza, the tangerine-tinted tyrant in Washington responded by lashing out at Petro, absurdly calling him “an illegal drug trafficker.” Trump threatened steep tariffs against Colombian imports, announced that the US would cut off all counter-narcotics assistance to the Latin American nation, and even hinted that U.S. missile strikes could expand to Colombian territory. “Petro, a low-rated and very unpopular leader, with a fresh mouth toward America, better close up these killing fields immediately, or the United States will close them up for him, and it won’t be done nicely,” Trump said.

The sick orange-sprayed POTUS responded to the remarkable outpouring of 7 million Americans in the No Kings Day protests held in more than 2,500 cities and towns three days ago by posting an AI video showing “King Trump” wearing a crown while piloting an Air Force bomber that dumped liquid shit on protesters in New York, Chicago, and other US cities (see the photo at the top of this essay).

“The Enemy Within”
And of course, there’s far more than online fantasy in the militarized menace Trump poses to the United States’ metropolitan areas. Herr Donald’s 21st Gestapo, ICE and its junior partner Border Patrol, are many months into a reign of racist, xenophobic-nationalist, and militarized police state terror across urban America. Among its many outrages, this assault has included the disgraceful deployment of Black Hawk Attack Helicopters and hundreds of heavily armed storm troopers against the residents of a large apartment complex in the Black Chicago neighborhood of South Shore.
Mein Trumpf47 has invaded Los Angeles, Washington DC, and Memphis with the National Guard. He sent the US Marines into Los Angeles. He is pressing to militarily invade Portland, Oregon on the basic of the utterly absurd claim that “radical left terrorists” are “burning” that city “to the ground.” In a nod to the Slaveowners’ Confederacy, whose virulent racist legacy he and his openly Christian white nationalist (neofascist) “Secretary of War” Pete Hegseth uphold, Trump is now asking his Supreme Court to summarily reverse lower court rulings that have so far blocked his bid to put Texas National Guard troops in Chicago.
Trump has said that Illinois governor JB Pritzker and Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson “should be in jail” since they have not ordered state and city police to join Ice and Border Patrol’s racist kidnapping operations.
Three weeks ago, the depraved fascist-in-chief Trump and Hegseth ordered 800-plus generals and admirals to Quantico, Virginian from across the vast American global empire to hear them say that America’s real adversary is “the enemy within,” meaning the residents of the nation’s majority nonwhite and “radical left” cities. Trump told the stone-faced brass that American cities need to become “training grounds” for the US military.
The depravity is stunning.
The Insurrection Act: “Several Advantages Over the Current Mode of [Domestic] Miliary Deployment” May Make it Irresistible to El Maligno
Faced with governors’ and mayor’s opposition and with federal district court and Appeals Court rulings that have slowed his attempted troop deployments in Portland and Chicago, the Insurrectionist Orange Malignancy is talking seriously about invoking the slaveowners’ Insurrection Act to occupy US cities with regular, active-duty military forces. He brought up the Insurrection Act most recently while telling a Fatherland (FOX) News reporter/bootlicker that he wants to send troops to San Francisco.
It would be a mistake to laugh off Trump’s threats to invoke the Insurrection Act, a radical escalation amounting to martial law. As the law professors Bob Bauer and Jack Goldsmith recently explained in the New York Times:
“Trump’s efforts to deploy the National Guard in Los Angeles, Chicago and Portland, Ore., have taken place under a statute that allows the federalization of National Guard troops and an executive order that specifies their use for protecting federal facilities and functions. These authorities together stay within the constraints of the Posse Comitatus Act, a 19th-century law that bars the use of federal military for law enforcement — arrests, seizures, non-defensive uses of force and the like — unless ‘expressly authorized by the Constitution or act of Congress.’ The Insurrection Act — a collection of laws enacted across the nation’s first century — is different: It offers the president much more robust authorities and gives him several advantages over the current mode of military deployment.
First, it authorizes use of the regular armed forces in addition to the Guard. This gives the president access to a much larger military force without the need to deal with complications that arise when federalizing and organizing state-level National Guard troops.
Second, the act has extremely broad and vaguely worded triggers for its use and thus affords a president the widest conceivable discretion. One provision says the president can use the armed forces ‘as he considers necessary’ to enforce federal law against ‘obstructions,’ ‘combinations’ or ‘assemblages’ that make laws ‘impracticable to enforce.’ Another authorizes the president to order the armed forces to ‘take such measures as he considers necessary to suppress’ any domestic violence or ‘unlawful combination’ if the violence or combination ‘opposes or obstructs the execution of the laws of the United States or impedes the course of justice under those laws.’ The act has several other predicates.
Third, the Insurrection Act, once invoked, avoids the Posse Comitatus bar, since it constitutes an express congressional authorization that allows the use of the military for law-enforcement purposes. If the president invoked the Insurrection Act, he could use the military far beyond protecting federal law-enforcement operations related to U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement. He could instead use the military as a substitute for Immigration and Customs Enforcement as long as one of the permissive legal triggers was satisfied.
Fourth, the president would not be limited to using the military for immigration law enforcement. He could use regular forces for any domestic law enforcement function, including to suppress violence in cities — again, as long as one of the lax rules for invoking the law was satisfied.
Fifth, the president will receive very significant deference from courts in his determination that an Insurrection Act predicate is satisfied. The leading case in the Supreme Court suggests that the president has ‘exclusive’ authority to determine the ‘exigency’ that triggers the act. And the act contains language — ‘whenever the president considers’ and ‘as he considers necessary’ — that will further encourage judicial deference.
…But city crime prevention is far from the act’s only potential use. The president in March issued an executive order that contemplated a legally contested federal takeover of federal elections to redress supposed ‘fraud, errors or suspicion.’ Notwithstanding criminal laws that prohibit members or officers of the military from deploying troops to polling places, it is easy to imagine Mr. Trump issuing such orders in next year’s congressional elections on the claim of a president’s complete authority and control over the military to deal under the Insurrection Act with a ‘combination or conspiracy’ that opposes or obstructs the execution of federal election laws.”
Yes, that was a long block quote beyond what is normally recommended in an essay like this but I hope you read it anyway. I especially hope you paid attention to the last paragraph where Bauer and Goldsmith tell readers that the depraved fascist psychopath atop the US government wants to use federal troops to disrupt the 2026 mid-term elections.
Ever since he was elected president a second time – four months after his handpicked Supreme Court had ruled (in the aptly named July 1, 2024 Trump v United States decision) that he was immune from prosecution for any crime he commits that bears the imprimatur of “official presidential duties” (making Trump v the United States essentially a “Reichstag Fire ruling”) and thanks in no small part to racist voter suppression – I have expected Trump to utilize the Insurrection Act in his first year in office. I honestly don’t see how the “vile, morally corrupt madman” and the “fascist regime” he heads can resist it. It’s too rich a plate of authoritarian red meat for these rabid fascist dogs not to gobble up, no?
It all bespeaks a shocking level of depravity.

Fascists Revealing Their World View in an All-Too rarely Noted Way
Trump and the key people around him, including above all Stephen “We Are the Storm!” Miller, are dedicated sociopathic fascists eager to stamp out the last embers of American democracy, decency, deliberation. and rule of law by any and all means “necessary.” The Trump regime and the Trump party’s wild denunciation of last Saturday’s predominantly mainstream liberal and patriotic No Kings Day II protests as “Radical Left,” “Marxist” (I’m one), and “terrorist” rallies dedicated to “Hating America” is symptomatic of their fascist ideology, which requires socialist, Marxist, and communist enemies even when such enemies do not exist to any significant degree, as in the US today (unlike in Germany in the early 1930s).
The Trump regime’s obsessive hatred of “the Left” more than merely echoes Hitler and Goebbels’ fanatical calls and pledges to “restore German greatness” by saving it in from dreaded Marxists and “Judeo Bolsheviks” who had supposedly “stabbed the nation in the back” during and after World War I.

The former Fatherland News co-host and current “Secretary of War” Pete “I’ll Stop Drinking if You put Me Atop the Pentagon” Hegseth (member of a far-right church whose pastor says that the best period in American race relations was the era of Black chattel slavery) is a fascist zealot who salivates over the prospect of unleashing the US military on majority white US cities. He holds his position despite his monumental incompetence in great part because Trump47 is counting on him to do what Trump45’s military chiefs wouldn’t do: use bloody force against US citizens and residents on US soil.
There is no rock bottom to his depravity. A recently leaked Signal chat shows that Hegseth has been thinking about sending the elite US Army 82nd Airborne to crush anti-ICE protests in Portland.
Derangement Syndromes
As the historian Peter Fritzsche shows in his brilliant and chilling book Hitler’s First Hundred Days: When German Embraced the Third Reich, Hitler benefitted enormously from many decent and moderate Germans’ failure to take seriously the grave menace he and his movement and party posed to German democracy and humanity.
Serious and sober, reality-based antifascists have for years been mocked for and accused of “Trump Derangement Syndrome” (TDS), “hysteria,” and “boy who cried wolf”-ism. The accusers have included by left-identified fools who have thought themselves clever for denying the fascist essence of the Trump movement and for minimizing the threat posed by the Trump regimes.
It’s a shame more Germans didn’t get Hitler Derangement Syndrome in 1932 and 1933. But Non-Derangement Syndrome (TNDS) is arguably a bigger problem than Hitler Non-Derangement Syndrome that given the power of the United States and the times in which we live. As the great left intellectual Noam Chomsky explained in January of 2020, reflecting on Trump’s first impeachment:
“Are the crimes discussed a basis for impeachment? Seems so to me. Has Trump committed vastly more serious crimes? That is hardly debatable. What might be debatable is whether he is indeed the most dangerous criminal in human history (which happens to be my personal view). Hitler had been perhaps the leading candidate for this honor. His goal was to rid the German-run world of Jews, Roma, homosexuals and other “deviants,” along with tens of millions of Slav “Untermenschen.” But Hitler was not dedicated with fervor to destroying the prospects of organized human life on Earth in the not-distant future (along with millions of other species). Trump is. And those who think he doesn’t know what he’s doing haven’t been looking closely.”

A Spoof That Had to be Double-Checked
Speaking of how insane and depraved things have gotten atop the US government (and how lame and Weimar-like some top Dems are), I recently put up this Onion-style spoof online:
“Unnamed sources report that Donald Trump has ordered the Secretary of War Pete Hegseth to present a plan next week for the nuclear annihilation of every US city with a population of 500,000 or more. Senate Minority Leader Charles Schumer (D-NY) says that ‘any such plans would be contrary to the national interest and inconsistent with the Democrats signing on to a budget agreement to end the government shutdown.’ Asked for comment, former president Obama said that ‘the nuking of our major cities by our own military would be a major setback for our great nation.’ Obama cautioned that ‘Democrats should seek bipartisan support for a Congressional resolution questioning the legality of a US nuclear attack on major US cities.”
Crazy, right? …And yet… serious, intelligent people understandably felt the need to make sure it wasn’t for real. As one of my brilliant readers commented: “My first thought was to laugh, my second thought was ‘Let me Google this and make sure it’s a joke.’ Relieved to discover it was not a real story but disturbed I felt the need to check because it sounded like something he might consider.
(I later added this spoof/fake comment from Obama: “I know it can sometimes be difficult to win votes on the other side of the aisle but the genius of America is that at the end of the day we’re all on the same team. It would be terrible to lose Chicago or St. Louis, of course, but we’re still all Americans at the end of life on Earth.”)
The Biggest Protest Day in US History on page A23 of the Sunday New York Times
Speaking of ridiculous liberal Weimar appeasement and understatement, consider this: last Saturday’s No Kings Day (NKD) protests marked the biggest single day protest mobilization in US history but did not get reported on the first page of the Sunday New York Times. The Times report on NKD appeared on page 23 of the Sunday Times’ first section. That was a deep bending of the knee to Herr Donald on the part of the national “liberal” paper of record.

This is FASCISM. A different form of brutal rule. It cannot be lived with. It must be defeated.

By doing all this day after day. Coming back stronger in the face of attack and repression. Uniting, not dividing, across many viewpoints and backgrounds. Fostering a collective spirit of courage and righteous fury. Willing to sacrifice for the greater good of defeating this fascism.

History is full of examples where people who had right on their side fought against tremendous odds and were victorious. It is also full of examples of people passively hoping to wait it out, only to get swallowed up by a horror beyond what they ever imagined.
