Introductionby dmorista: The U.S. Empire, has been in decline for decades, (the first stage being the transition from Strong Hegemony to Weak Hegemony after the 1971 retreat from the Gold Standard as defeat in Vietnam loomed). The rise of China and other places, most notably in East Asia, has been inexorable and this has all reached a new level of seriousness in recent weeks. The Chinese showed off some of their high-tech military muscle in the parade in Beijing that commemorated the 80 year victory over Japan (China lost about 30 million people in the war and atrocities of the WW 2 era, that began in 1931 in China with the attack on Manchuria). Of course China, along with Russia (that lost 47 million people according to the latest analyses), suffered far more in WW 2, than did the U.S. Lucky in its geographical isolation, the U.S. had no battles inside the 48 States and only the Pearl Harbor attack and some battles in the remote Aleutian Islands in Alaska on national territory.
The position of the U.S. in the Global Power Hierarchy is visibly slipping and the Chinese, who have a traditional strategy that features patience and long-term planning, are slowly moving to surpass the U.S. This includes a wide variety of areas of endeavor from the political, economic and ideological to the scientific, technological, and military. China, using NATO, the G-7 (G-8 and G-20) the E.U., the IMF and the World Bank as their inspiration are now building the multi-national institutions needed to implement their ascendancy
There is a glaring contrast between the domestic positions of the Fascist Movement, that is perilously close to taking total power here in the U.S. Pushing around and oppressing a widely disparate and scattered population who, by a wide majority, don't want to be subjected to their oppressive policies is easy when it is compared to the struggle with implacable and advanced foreign powers. As the power of the U.S. ruling class steadily shrinks in the world at large paradoxically it continues to grow inside the country.
