“President Miller” Promises “The Storm”

“President Miller”

Currently bearing the title of Deputy Chief of Staff to the President of the United States, the malignant nativist commander Stephen Miller is arguably the most powerful and durable actor behind the implementation of the fascist Trump MAGA agenda. Rolling Stone recently reported that his, domineering and “high-strung” presence has led “Trumpworld” to invent various ominous nicknames for Miller: “Shadow Sec Def,” “Prime Minister Miller,” “The REAL Attorney General,” “The DHS boss,” and “President Miller.”

Nobody has done more than Miller to craft and enact Trump45 and Trump47’s white supremacist wars on people of color and most especially on nonwhite immigrants – a terrible campaign of racist and xenophobic nationalist hate that has dramatically accelerated in the second and far worse Trump administration.

During the first and milder Trump atrocity/administration, Miller crafted the Trump administration's vicious family-separation policy and its travel ban on people from “Muslim countries.” Now he is the top dog behind Trump47’s nationwide mass racist detention, deportation, and rendition campaign.

This fascist “war for the homeland” is being waged by a 21st Century Gestapo that will soon be funded at a higher level than the militaries of every country on Earth except the United States and China: Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE).

“We are the Storm” and “You Are Nothing”

Miller just gave a deranged, classically fascist speech epitomizing the racialized, Social Darwinian, and neo-Nazi politics of “us and them” at the stadium memorial service held for the heinously assassinated fascist youth leader Charlie Kirk in Phoenix, Arizona.

The speech was a chilling expression of the Trump fascist regime’s determination to use Kirk’s murder by a 22-year-old gunman from a MAGA family in Utah as a Reichstag Fire moment – as a pretext for Miller’s declared goal of “dismantling the left.”

Not to be outdone by his boss Donald “Take Down the Metal Detectors” Trump (see the postscript below) for menacing rhetoric, Miller threatened non-Trumpist America with “the warrior” who says, “I am the Storm.” Further:

We are the Storm and our enemies cannot comprehend our strength or determination or resolve, our passion. Our lineage, our legacy hails back to Athens, to Rome, to Philadelphia, to Monticello. Our ancestors built the cities. They produced the art and architecture. They built the industry. [Charlie Kirk’s widow] Erika stands on the shoulders of thousands of years of warriors…who pulled us out of the caves of darkness and into the light. The light will defeat the dark. We will prevail over the forces of wickedness and evil. They cannot imagine what they have awakened. They cannot conceive of the army that they have arisen. Because we stand for what is good, what is virtuous, what is noble.”

“To those trying to foment hatred against us, what do you have? You have nothingYou are nothing. You are wickedness, you are jealousy, you are envy, you are hatred. YOU ARE NOTHING! You can build nothing. You can produce nothing, You can produce nothing. We are the ones who build. We are the ones who create. We are the ones who lift up humanity.”

What YOU Did to US

Further:

You thought you could kill Charlie Kirk? You have made him immortal! And now millions will carry on his legacy…You cannot defeat us, you cannot slow us, you cannot stop us, you cannot deter us…We will carry Charlie in our heart and fight that much harder because of what YOU did to USYou have no idea of the dragon you have awakened. You have no idea how determined we will be to save this civilization, to save the West, to save this republic, Because our children and our grandchildren will be strong. And what will you leave behind? Nothing. Nothing. To our enemies, you have to offer. You have nothing to share but bitterness. We have beauty, We have light. We…have goodness. We have determination. We have strength. WE BUILT THE WORLD THAT WE INHABIT NOW, generation by generation and we will defend this world! We will defend goodness. We will defend light. We will defend virtue. You cannot terrify us. You cannot frighten us. You cannot threaten us. Because we are on the side of goodness. We are on the side of God.”

It is worth noting that ancient Athens, ancient Rome, and (Thomas Jefferson’s) Monticello were all based on slavery, a labor regime that Miller and the MAGA movement would love to restore in the US if they could. It was Black slaves, indentured servants, and multi-racial wage earners who built the United States, at no small cost in blood.

I asked Google AI about the political meaning of the phrase “the storm.” It came back with this useful and accurate discussion:

“The metaphor of ‘the storm’ is a key element in fascist discourse, signifying violent, revolutionary action and purification. It is used to contrast perceived societal decay with the promise of a cleansing, transformative upheaval. This rhetorical strategy, with its origins in 20th-century fascism, continues to be employed by modern extremist and far-right movements.”

An Influential Fascist Novel

Herr Miller cherished a favorite work of fiction as he moved from his nasty racist adolescence in Santa Monica, California to the far right, ultimately to the most powerful white supremacist and xenophobic nationalist position in American history.

I am referring to The Camp of the Saints, a racist 1973 French novel by the right-wing Catholic Jean Raspail. This lethal work of dystopian fiction has long been popular with neo-Nazis and other fascists because it provides a violent and sexualized fictional structure for the great mythical white nationalist narratives of “the great replacement” and “white genocide.” The novel portrays dark-skinned Third World refugees as a savage existential menace to supposedly superior Western and white “civilization.”

The novel’s plot is built around a massive flotilla of South Asian people who invade France and effectively overthrow Western white civilization. The flotilla is led by a Subcontinental Indian described as “the turd eater” – a loathsome character who literally feasts on human feces.

The Camp of the Saints depicts a white woman being raped to death by swarthy refugees. The novel approvingly portrays a European white nationalist killing a pro-refugee leftist who supports “race mixing.”

As the French language and culture professor Chelsea Stieber told NPR six years ago, the novel’s “key themes” are “white supremacy and the end of white civilization as the West knows it — infestation, invasion, hordes of nameless, faceless migrants who come to invade the West and bring about its end.”

Professor Steiber thought of young Stephen Miller’s favorite novel while listening to Trump’s first Inaugural Address. "I noticed a language that I was intimately familiar with because I study it — because I worked on far-right French nationalism and its literature and language for a long time," she said. "And I was blown away. The alarm bells started going off.”

That was nearly nine years before Miller had Trump tell his MAGA hate campaign rallies that brown-skinned immigrants were “poisoning the blood” of the United States and that Haitian immigrants were “eating the dogs and cats” in Springfield, Ohio.

Stages of Fascist Assault

I thought of Raspail’s racist novel three days ago while watching a disturbing video of one of the Miller-Trump regime’s 21st Century Gestapo gendarmes viciously shoot a white anti-ICE protester (a young Catholic priest, it appears) in the head with a rubber bullet outside an immigrant processing center that has been turned into a Hellish detention site near Chicago. Like Trump, Miller, and the MAGA movement, Raspail loathed not only nonwhite humanity but also white left Westerners he perceived – in accord with a longstanding classic historical fascist narrative – as backstabbing enablers and advocates of “white genocide” and “great replacement.”

As the University of Toronto philosophy professor and fascism expert Jason Stanley recently told MSNBC, “Stephen Miller is now talking about Democrats the way he talks about immigrants…This is next phase” in the fascist “playbook,” Stanley says: “the US citizen phase, the targeting of US citizens.” The US citizens being targeted with special new menace following the Kirk killing are any and all of us who publicly criticize what the Trump fascist regime and the Trump movement is doing to our country and the world.

Recall, dear reader, Trump’s suggestion during the 2024 campaign that he might want to deport “homegrown” US leftists.[1]

Postscript: “I Hate My Opponents and I Don’t Want the Best for Them”

Listen to Mein Trumpf’s sick comments in Phoenix. As The Guardian reports:

“At one point, Trump mentioned that, shortly before he died, Kirk told a staff member he was not afraid of students who disagreed with him in the crowd at Utah Valley University. ‘I’m not here to fight them – I want them to know them and love them,’ Trump quoted Kirk as saying. ‘In that private moment on his dying day, we find everything we need to know about who Charlie Kirk truly was.. He did not hate his opponents, he wanted the best for them,’ Trump said, before breaking from his prepared remarks to add: ‘That’s where I disagreed with Charlie. I hate my opponents, and I don’t want the best for them, I’m sorry.’

Gee, that sounds like a man who: wanted fascist Proud Boys, Oath Keepers, and Three Percenters paramilitaries armed with military style assault weapons as they descended upon the US Capitol to try to cancel an election and attack elected legislators on January 6; joked repeatedly about how one of his deranged supporters invaded the home of former US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi and fractured her husband’s skull with a hammer; has floated the idea of pardoning the paramilitary fascists who plotted to kidnap Michigan’s Democratic Party governor Gretchen Whitmer; pardoned more than 1500 January 6 thugs on his first day back in office; criminally invades Democratic Party-run cities with armed military troops and claims that the United States’ top adversary is the leftist “enemy within.”

Think about what Trump’s vicious statement portends for the United States and indeed for all humanity if the American people don’t rise up in the many millions in a sustained popular uprising meant to prevent the deranged fascist monsters Trump and Miller et al. from staying in power beyond one year.

Note

+1. “Using federal law, section 212 (f) of the Immigration and Nationality Act,” Trump told the far-right Evangelical “Faith and Freedom Conference” in Washington DC in June of 2023, “I will order my government to deny entry to all communists and all Marxists,” he said. “Those who come to join our country must love our country. We don’t want them if they want to destroy our country…. So, we’re going to be keeping foreign Christian-hating communists, socialists, and Marxists out of America. We’re keeping them out of America.” Trump said, accurately, that US law “prohibits the entry of communists” into the U.S. But that was insufficient for Trump. He asked his Christian fascist audience, “my question is, what are we going to do with the ones that are already here, that grew up here?” The far-right evangelicals screamed out loud “Deport them! Deport them!”
