songs about drinking in bars are as common as is finding music and musicians drinking in bars.
when I was young, my bandmates and I rented rooms on a sorta semi-working farm. we rented from some folks who, in turn, were renting the place from some Rockefeller or other.
there was plenty of space, plenty of rooms in the old farmhouse.
there were also a hellof a lot of dogs and cats. the dogs had two large bedrooms of their own, as did the cats...... and there were a LOT of cats.
the thirteen dogs were greatly outnumbered.
there was also a rather grand basement to the house. the youngest son, Grag, bunked in that big ole basement
and no other human often ventured down there.
it was clean and orderly but
it stank of mice.
and that was to be expected as there was an enormous ceiling enclosure that ran all the hell around the ceiling's perimeter
and which was filled with thousands of little white rodents
Greg's mom worked in a lab and was tasked with dispatching the lab mice and Greg's mom was not keen to kill
and decided to take the position that removing the rodents from the lab was quite sufficient. and Greg becaome rodent-rich.
anyway, Greg's mom would leave early in the day, drive two hours to the lab and two hours home and had neither time nor inclination to do much in way of cooking.
our weekly room and board was mostly room, and whatever we could cook for ourselves. ...and we were sorta challenged by that as there was rarely very much to cook.
but we were mostly interested in practicing our instruments, which we had set up in the barn
or practicing outside the barn with non-electrified instruments
but we wuz young and hungry,we fancied ourselves to be musicians
starving artists.
skinny and underfed
and we would walk the five miles into town and get what nourishment we could from the orange juice that covered the vodka or gin in our drinks
and we drank a lotta OJ
in every damn bar in town
and met some bartenders.
which was unsurprising since the drinks dont pour themselves
lotta songs about bars and bartenders been sung and played.
maybe you can add one or two to mine.
