The words, “Don’t make me have to hit you,” are classic in the world of domestic abuse, where the perpetrator - the domestic abuser - assigns responsibility to the victim for having provoked a violent attack.
We are now at the point where Maladministration II can clearly be seen as the “domestic abuser” of the United States, and where those who believe in democracy - in the America that used to exist - are assigned as the victims who have provoked the abuser to make his violent attack.
Maladministration II claims that we are the “domestic enemy” from whom they must defend “the American people,” those who qualify for that title by their loyalty to and support of the Domestic Abuser, the “real” Americans.
It turns out that, at 3:30 p.m. on Saturday - while 200,000 people were participating the biggest protests against the Domestic Abuser and Would-be King throughout the city of Los Angeles - ICE carried out their biggest raid since they began their assault on the city back on June 6. The incident, according to video of the event captured by photojournalists with OnScene.TV, unfolded Saturday at the Santa Fe Springs Swap Meet.
With a DHS helicopter circling, over 60 heavily armed, masked ICE goons dressed in military tactical gear without identification - along with an unknown number of U.S. Marines there to defend the goons - raided one of the most popular swap meets in Southern California, one which caters to a predominantly Latino crowd. The sight of ICE agents sent many vendors and customers running, in an attempt to escape the raid. Despite their large numbers, only two people, a woman and a man - who told an onlooker he’s Colombian - were seen in handcuffs as they were escorted away, though it’s claimed others there were also kidnapped. Aracely Lopez, a vendor at the market, said. “All the entrances were wide open. There was a helicopter circling the premises. They were dragging people out of the bathrooms. They went into all the spaces asking for everyone’s identification.”
That Maladministration II has in fact declared war on America was shown on June 11 in Los Angeles, when ICE Barbie Kristi Noem said at a press conference that federal authorities would remain in the city to “liberate the city from the socialists and the burdensome leadership that this governor and that this mayor have placed on this country and what they have tried to insert into the city.” That was moments before Senator Alex Padilla entered and attempted to ask her a question, before being shoved against a wall and thrown to the ground where he was handcuffed by the FBI officers who had escorted him into the meeting room.
Right-wing media have been reinforcing the idea that the Domestic Abuser has been forced into violence by the actions of the victims, telling their audiences the protests are being organized by Democrats to trap Trump into acting like a dictator. As former ambusher for Bill O’Reilly - now jumped up to Faux Snooze host - Jesse Watters said on his show Monday: “Democrats are causing mayhem in their cities, so when Trump restores order, they can label him a dictator and stir up even more hatred and violence against him. They’re burning their own cities just to prove to their bloodthirsty base that they’re fighting Trump in the streets, burning their own cities for power.”
There are indeed people in this country who are “bloodthirsty,” but none of them are Democrats.
The LA protests have been provoked by Maladministration II’s illegal and authoritarian tactics, which are happening in order to provide pretext for using force against Trump’s political opposition nationwide.
Los Angeles has moved over the past 60 years from a conservative Republican white-majority city to a Democratic multicultural city after Tom Bradley defeated Sam Yorty in 1973 to become the city’s first non-white mayor since California was ripped from Mexico 145 years before, to now a minority-majority city in which the largest ethnic group is Latino, and immigrants are a significant part of the population. The city that has long been reviled by the Right going back to the anti-Hollywood campaign to get rid of “smut” in the movies that resulted in the adoption of the Hayes Code in 1934, has now become the principal piece of evidence of the white nationalists’ “Great Replacement Theory” in action.
It was inevitable that Los Angeles - the city that never accepted the presence of Donald Trump when he bought what became the Trump National Golf Club in Rancho Palos Verdes in 2002 despite him having become a Reality-TV “star” - would be the city he would use as his demonstration of his power in “othering” his political opponents. Mayor Bass and Governor Newsom were not wrong when they said that Los Angeles was the “test case” when Trump decided to send the National Guard into the city despite there being no actual good reason for doing so.
Trump’s lies that he “saved the city” from being “burned to the ground” (after refusing to send federal aid five months ago when the city really was being burned to the ground by an accident of nature) and Noem’s lie that DHS was occupying the city to save we residents from non-existent socialist revolutionaries, are horrid lies, each 180 degrees the opposite of reality. They are a declaration of domestic war against the country’s great cities and the right of their residents to govern themselves.
But at the same time, these lies are public admissions of weakness. Maladministration II is losing this fight and has been since their first day in office, when the first federal judge acted to block them over Trump’s executive order declaring an end to birthright citizenship - something that is plainly in the Constitution. Since then, Maladministration II has lost every significant court case they have fought in their effort to destroy the federal government. They have arrived at the point where - according to recent public opinion polling - they are “underwater” with the public on every single point of their agenda: immigration policy, economic policy, foreign policy, military policy and social goals.
This is why Trump erupted in his epic tantrum last night., in so doing admitting that - once again as in everything he has attempted to do in his life - he is a failure. The tantrum is his petulant attempt to divert attention from his failures; he is trying to control the narrative by upping the ante to drown all the accusations from his opponents, all the signs that his corrupt acts have now been rejected by the American public.
The demonstrations across the country this past weekend were the largest protest in the country’s history. Turnout exceeded the most optimistic forecasts of organizers. The result is that people from veteran protesters to those taking to the streets for the first time felt empowered by the experience, strengthened in their convictions and their belief in ultimate victory over this sad looser of a man and the pathetic sycophants and opportunists looking to “get theirs” by their proximity to his perceived power.
Trump can make good on his declaration of war and send national guard units to cities and states that openly oppose him. But the more he does so, the more he will lose. His opponents will only increase their numbers and strengthen their power as a result of his ignorance and mendacity.
As the results of his mismanagement of international trade and the domestic economy become more apparent, while more people - including a majority of those who originally supported him - find their lives harmed from these mistakes, opposition will grow. There aren’t enough troops - who are already showing their discontent with how he treats them, as seen in the way soldiers marched through the streets of Washington Saturday evening - either federal regulars or state guardsmen, to control a country whose citizens have declared “Enough!”
Yes, if he tries to carry out his war he will inflict harm on many people. Our lives will be more difficult. Things will get worse. But by the degree all that happens, he will face continued opposition.
The billionaires who back him now will come to see him as the bad investment he and his ideas have always been.
Donald Trump has never been more than a momentary winner; he has always squandered what small victories he obtained because of his ignorance and incompetence. He attracts only the ignorant and incompetent as followers.
This afternoon, 60,000 people joined the Zoom Call from Indivisible to plan the next step.
Rachel Maddow said this: “So for a would-be strong man, he's not strong. He is a remarkably weak and feckless political figure who is nevertheless trying to overthrow the American form of government while pushing incredibly unpopular policies and executing everything incredibly poorly with a laughing stock full of a terribly staffed administration and cabinet.”
Victory over the dark side of American history is not inevitable, but it is possible so long as the forces of the light side of history stand together in their opposition and continue to put pressure on this fragile, broken man. He will break before we do.
If we step up and continue on.
