Introduction by dmorista: Much has been made of the fact that Trump is somewhat less devoted to the “forever wars” than the Corporate Democrats and their own coterie of NeoCons are. However, Trump has always been rabidly Zionist and ready to do the bidding of the Israel Lobby, the Zionists in general, and the Likudniks in Israel. An important current issue is Trump's proposal for the U.S. military and contractors to take on the expensive and massive job of pushing the Palestinians out of Gaza; and then clearing the rubble and unexploded ordinance to prepare a giant real estate project, that he expects to get a cut of, with a Trump Riviera Hotel and Resort.

A long-term goal of the Israeli Far-Right and Bibi Netanyahu in particular is to involve the U.S. in an aerial campaign and even a land-war against Iran, perhaps ostensibly intended to destroy nuclear facilities; that are installed too deep in the Iranian Mountains even for “Bunker Buster” bombs to penetrate. While the Israel Lobby had some major successes in getting the U.S. involved in the ongoing wars in the Near East; the important Zionist Goal of luring the U.S. military into attacking Iran has not been a success.

As disastrous as such an attack would have been in the late 1970s, or in the 1980s – the early 2000s, it promises to be far more disastrous now. This is due to the increasing strength of Iran itself and the change in the balance of Power now that China has grown into the juggernaut it currently is, and Russia has recovered from its nadir in the early 1990s. These developments have taken place while the U.S. ruling class still operated as if they were the strong hegemons who commanded the U.S. state in the late 1940s. Indeed as James Petras observed:

“War and violent regime change are the exclusive means through which the US now advances its foreign policy. However, the various Washington war-makers among the power elite do not form a unified bloc with common priorities. In the period since the end of the Vietnam War by far the most successful of the factions has been the Zionists and Israel Firsters. The U.S. Military and/or the allied covert proxy/mercenary forces have been engaged in attacks on several countries that are in the Levant or the Horn of Africa; areas of vital concern to Israel but of only marginal interest to the U.S. Ruling Class' agenda. The GWOT wars that followed the extremely suspicious attacks on U.S. targets on September 11, 2001 cost the U.S. something on the order of $10 Trillion - $15 Trillion. Petras, in that same article, went on to write about the attack on Iraq:

“ …. Zionist policymakers had a much larger agenda than erasing Iraq as a viable country: They had a longer list of targets: Syria, Iran, Lebanon and Libya, whose destructions were to be carried out with US and NATO blood and treasure (and not a single Israeli soldier). ….

“Israel has been the biggest winner with no cost for the Jewish State. The American Zionist policy elite literally handed them the services of the largest and richest armed forces in history: the US. Israel-Firsters played a decisive role among Washington policy-makers and Tel Aviv celebrated in the streets! They came, they dominated policy and they accomplished their mission: Iraq (and millions of its people) was destroyed.

“The US gained an unreliable, broken colony, with a devastated economy and systematically destroyed infrastructure and without the functioning civil service needed for a modern state. Crowning the Washington war-makers victory was the disarticulation of American civil and constitutional rights and liberties and the construction of a enormous domestic police state.

In the ensuing years, they failed to push the US to attack Teheran but they succeeded in imposing crippling sanctions on Iran. Now the U.S., that the imperialist cheerleaders of times past always referred to in the most superlative tones, is clearly flagging. But still, regardless of the likely cost to the American People, the Israel Firsters are still pushing for a U.S. / Israeli attack on Iran. It is ironic that the supposed dangers of Iran's nuclear program are the excuse used for an attack on Iran, seeing as Trump himself repudiated the JCPOA (The Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action) an agreement intended to limit the Iranian nuclear program. In doing this Trump was certainly to some degree responding to the campaign monies ponied up by Sheldon Adelson; a notorious wealthy Zionist who once suggested at a public meeting at the Cooper Union in New York City that the U.S. should use nuclear weapons on Teheran, a city of over 10 million inhabitants. A recent short article from Iran discusses the fact that while U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio, an extreme right-winger of Cuban descent from Florida, is trying to blame Iran for leaving the JCPOA; the facts are that Trump abrogated the treaty that the Iranians held to scrupulously until that occurred. Fortunately, there is some evidence that Trump is hearing, from competent military and diplomatic leaders, that an attack on Iran would be a disaster on all levels. Some details of the weaponry and military forces Iran are presented in Item 5)., “Iran's Military Power EXPLAINED: ….”: Item 6)., “Iran Is Ready for War — ….”: and Item 7)., “Iran is Truly Unbelievable! ….”. Iran has had 40 years to dig deep tunnels and deep chambers, and to develop its own indigenous weapons systems. They would take a serious toll of aerial attackers or land forces committed to an invasion of the country.

The Trump Regime has added a new wrinkle, a policy of public ridicule and intimidation of foreign leaders such as the notorious session with Zelenskyy of Ukraine in the Oval Office. We can be sure that such hardball sessions have always taken place, but it was never done in public, on TV, the way the shakedown of Zelensky was presented. Another issue is that U.S. military forces are not limitless. If actual military threats against Greenland, the Panama Canal, and/or Canada are to be used to backup the shakedowns of those places; and U.S. military personnel are to be involved in Gaza, and the air war against the Houthis and Yemen continues, and the new “Coldwar 2, the War with China” is pursued; certainly the U.S. military will be seriously overstretched.

The list of strategic problems that Trump and his allies in the U.S. ruling class want to resolve includes the following. Greenland & Canada together would give the U.S. a long Arctic Ocean Shoreline and make after Russia the country with the longest such shoreline. And the land areas of Canada and Greenland contain significant mineral resources. Undoubtedly, the U.S. could gain access to the minerals and the shoreline without actually taking over Canada and Greenland through standard business and military / diplomatic methods. Trump constantly cites China as the biggest strategic, military, political and economic problem the U.S. faces. However, the actions that Netanyahu and the Israel Firsters & Zionists want to take, would drain off much of the U.S.' strength and would frustrate their plans to confront China before China becomes too powerful, as U.S. power wanes.
