Introduction by dmorista: The U.S. ruling class and their minions, who manage the affairs of the truly rich among the rulers, have been SHOCKED at the public response to the killing of United Health Care's (UHC) CEO Brian Thompson. Apparently they expected a typical response in which Thompson was lauded and conciliatory comments were posted sympathizing with his widow and surviving children. Instead every web site that posted a statement about Thompson's death has been flooded with messages that sympathize with the shooter, now arrested and identified as Luigi Mangione. One message board I looked at had this fine quote “When the rich rob the poor, it’s called business. When the poor fight back, it’s called violence.” – Mark Twain.
And the negative attitudes towards UHC and Thompson come from all over the socioeconomic spectrum. Reddit had a comment section that was filled with disparaging comments, made entirely by physicians, about UHC, its administration and its business model. UHC set up a facebook site memorializing Thompson, it was flooded with negative comments many with laughing emojis. The New York Times had a comment section that was overwhelmed with negative and gloating comments. All three of these comment sections were withdrawn and closed along with various others. The ideological outlook of Items 1). - 4). varies from solidly leftist, to centrist but the hostility is uniform.
One question is the empanelling of a jury for a murder trial of Mangione. It would appear that it will be very difficult to empanel a jury that does not have one or more members who would always vote to acquit. The future survival of Mangione in prison would appear to be questionable, perhaps he can be lodged in Jeffrey Epstein's cell during his “trial”.
