Introduction by dmorista: The always biting and hard-nosed commentary of Ryan & Mastromonaco, mostly aimed at reactionary white men who wield power over women and other men, in Item 1)., “White Women Need ….”, sets its sights on White Women in general. The hosts talk with Joy Reid about the fact that White Women have yet to really turn on the reactionary politicians who have now taken away their reproductive health care and abortion access rights in over 1/3 of the country. Women have mobilized in large numbers to put state consitutional amendments on the ballot in 10 states, and were defeated in that effort in Arkansas by a State Supreme Court decision that ruled their petitions violated some red tape legal standard. After some banter, Reid, Ryan & Mastromonaco start serious discussion of the political situation 7 minutes into the video and continue looking primarily at Florida until about 14:30 discussing the actions of Florida Governor, Ron DeSantis, and his implementing investigations by his “election police” and propaganda efforts and intimidation efforts by state agencies working against the Abortion Rights Poposal 4. All done with impunity against the supporters of Proposal 4.
Reid takes it out farther to other states from about 14:00 to 18:15 discussing how White Women, who make up 30% of the electorate have not punished prominent Republican Office holders for their role in the stripping women of their health care rights. They mention that Rick Scott (the medicare scammer running for reelection to the Senate from Florida), Greg Abbot and Ted Cruz running for reelection in Texas have not felt the wrath of White Women, and Bryan Kemp who signed equally draconian Trump Abortion Ban legislation in Georgia (where the most widely publicized deaths of two pregnant Aftican American Women took place). Whether or not these men will lose their jobs a high public officials depends largely on the votes of White Women.
Then from about 18:15 onward through to about 24:50 Reid & Ryan discusss the horrific increase in Maternal Mortality and in Infant Mortality (both of which were already terrible, and the U.S. is exposed for the 3rd World tyranny that it actually is by these statistics). Reid points out that the lawsuit filed by Kansas, Texas, and Missouri to try to criminalize the use of Mifepristone actually says that the reduction in teen pregnancies in those states is depriving the ruling class there of cheap labor. They actually complain that the children born to pregnant teenagers are a public resource that they want to continue exploiting. And Reid further points out that in the Dobbs Decision Amy Coney Barret specifically wrote that the children born to desperately poor teenage mothers are a resource that is made available to well-off Christian households, in which the couple cannot procreate otherwise. They also note that far-right activists want to strip women of the right to vote and overturn the 19th amendment to the U.S. Constitution. In the last couple of minutes Reid & Ryan discuss “Coverture” the system under which only White Men had the vote and their wives and children lived under the husband's rule. Unmarried White Women were under the control of their Fathers or Brothers in Coverture.
In Item 2). “Hypocrite Trump ….” Reid leads a discussion of the fact that Trump is now being sued by members of the Central Park Five, African-American men wrongfully-convicted of assaulting a White Woman in Central Park. Trump took out a full-page advertisement in the New York Times calling for their execution (New York State had already repealed the death penalty by that time). The facts are that
“When Trisha Meili’s body was discovered in New York City’s Central Park early in the morning on April 20, 1989, she had been so badly beaten and repeatedly raped that she remained in a coma for nearly two weeks and retained no memory of the attack.
“The brutal assault of the 28-year-old white investment banker, who had been out for a jog the night before, led to widespread public outcry and the quick arrest and subsequent conviction of five black and Latino teens—Antron McCray, 15, Kevin Richardson, 15, Yusef Salaam, 15, Raymond Santana, 14, and Korey Wise, 16—who came to be known as the Central Park Five.
“But, in 2002, after serving sentences that ranged from six to 13 years for what then-New York City Mayor Ed Koch called 'the crime of the century,' new DNA evidence and a confession proved convicted rapist Matias Reyes was the true, lone culprit. The charges against the five men were vacated and they eventually received at $41 million settlement.” ( See, “The Central Park Five”, May 14, 2019, updated Aug 23, 2024, History.com Editors, History.com, at < https://www.history.com/
Trump still states that the rape victim is dead, when in fact she is a motivational speaker, Trump still never acknowedges that he was wrong. The 5 men, after being imprisoned for from 6 – 13 years, got on with their lives. One is now an elected city council member from Harlem.
These two video clips are both from the same interview. Hysteria has archived the full 1 hr and a few minutes in a podcast that is audio only. I can't find the full youtube version.
