The Destruction of the Universities of Gaza ~~ dmorista
Despite harsh repression and occasional attacks by Israel Defense Force (IDF) aircraft. Gaza had managed to build and maintain 7 universities. 5 of these have been totally destroyed and the other 2 have been heavily damaged. While the U.S. ruling class and their toady media bemoan the peaceful demonstrations and some minor vandalism (much of it committed by right-wing Zionist thugs and provocateurs); the Corporate Congtrolled Media has largely not bothered to cover the destruction of Palestinian Higher Education in Gaza. Below I highlight one sad part of this Saga. Israa Univerisity had built and was ready to open a new museum with artifacts going back to the time of the Roman Empire and later epochs in Palestinian History. However the IDF occupied Israa University, used it for detention and interrogations and finally demolished it.
The photo for Figure 3 comes from a video of the destruction of a building at Israa University. It is similar to, but not the same as, a video I saw on an MSNBC show on Saturday, May 4th. The video I saw, but could not find online, showed a front view of the very building in Figure 1. The building was then totally destroyed by a massive set of detonations. The video I used to post the photo chronicled the destruction of some other buildings or perhaps a back view of the building in Figure 1. I cannot tell.
