Many analysts on the left note that, in the U.S. and the U.K., both ruling classes replaced more-or-less Keynesian capitalism with NeoLiberalism in the years after 1980. The U.S. and U.K. Move was emulated by many societies in The West. Silvers notes that an integral part of this process is to destroy the ability of the state to take action, on behalf of the majority of its citizens, on economic issues. He notes that the NeoLiberal Era was so successful in its endeavors that it has brought on its own end as NeoLiberalism has been shown to be incapable of contending with the many serious issues we now face.
